Transactional Services Portfolio

Carbonwave (Mexico)

Develops high‑value biomaterials from the sargassum that washes up in the Caribbean, preventing its environmental impact. Its biorefinery platform turns this invasive seaweed into plastic substitutes and products that restore soils while capturing CO₂.

Support provided: Guidance and accompaniment to secure capital from Pegasus Capital, earmarked to boost sales, strengthen R&D, and reinforce working capital.

Thalasso (Mexico)

Collects sargassum without harming marine life. Complementing it are portable micro-biorefineries that transform the biomass on site into high-value compounds such as bioplastics, cosmetics, and fertilizers.

Support provided:
 Assistance in securing a grant from Invest Puerto Rico (2023), used to build a portable biorefinery and a cargo container capable of extracting high‑value compounds from the harvested sargassum.

BioPlaster Research (Mexico)

Manufactures compostable packaging made from alginates and cellulose extracted from sargassum. Its materials biodegrade within weeks, replacing single‑use plastics and reducing the retail sector’s carbon footprint.

Support provided: Refinement of a data‑driven financial model, enhancement of the investment narrative, and guidance on fundraising instruments such as SAFE notes. This enabled fundraising in 2024–2025 from Espera Ventures, Zenani Capital, Amplifica Capital, Zero by 50 and others, closing a bridge round to scale production and expand its impact across the MAR.

Maritime Procurement Services (Mexico)

Manages and recycles waste from ships in Mexican ports, preventing ocean pollution and converting part of it into biofuel to decarbonise logistics and protect the reef.

Support provided: Introduction to Viwala for a loan to launch operations in Cozumel, along with financial advice and partnerships that secured 2024 funding from Viwala and impact investor Dreilinden.

Reefy (Mexico)

The Dutch‑founded firm creates low‑emission concrete modules that interlock to form the Reef Enhancing Breakwater, an artificial reef that dissipates wave energy while providing habitat for corals and fish.

Support provided: Strengthening of the data room, refinement of the pitch, development of a financial model, teaser and investment deck, and guidance on convertible notes—enabling negotiations in 2024 with key investors such as Netherlands Enabling Water Technology (NEW‑ttt).

Through the MAR+Invest's Transactional Services, MPS mobilized funds to implement its services in Cozumel and Progreso, which allowed it to reach 324 beneficiaries and sustain 90 jobs in the MAR, as well as increase the capacity of its crushing plant to process up to 5 tons of waste per day, achieving a 20% reduction in outsourced costs of alternative fuel production.
