MAR Fund had the honor of sharing the experience of the MAR+Invest and Women for the MAR initiatives on November 6, 2025, during the 11th Regional Dialogue on Biodiversity Finance for Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. The key session, “Closing the Blue Finance Gap: Marine Financial Solutions in Latin America and the Caribbean,” was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP / BIOFIN) and brought together more than 100 biodiversity finance experts from 28 countries across the region.
In this forum, MAR Fund highlighted program advances and innovative financing opportunities, discussing how Conservation Trust Funds can serve as key catalysts for new financial solutions that integrate public, private, and philanthropic capital to foster investments in protecting the coastal ecosystems in the Mesoamerican Reef (MAR).
During the presentation, participants expressed great interest, recognizing the importance of strengthening women’s leadership and participation in the blue economy sector.
This conversation aligns with one of the “five big ideas” discussed at the BIOFIN LAC Dialogue — promoting triple-win mechanisms that benefit nature, public finances, and gender equity.
We extend our gratitude to all the people and organizations that made this exchange possible. Supporting market-based solutions today for a resilient Mesoamerican Reef tomorrow.
